Dilatation Above Ureteral Shadow.—The extent of thedilatation which may be apparent above a stone in theureter will vary with the degree of obstruction. The dila- 234 PYELOGRAPHY tation may be so slight that it is difficult of differentiationfrom the shadow caused by return flow of the injected fluidwhich is frequently seen in a flaccid ureter. Further, aureter may be dilated to a considerable extent, but unless itis fully distended, the dilatation may not be rendered vis-ible in the ureterogram. As a rule, however, a moderatedegree of dilatation will be readily demonstrated in the
