Behind ,the recently lit Christmas tree, donated to the people of London by the city of Oslo each year since 1947 and London's iconic landmarks ,St Martin-in-the-Fields Anglican church and the National Portrait Gallery.

An audience of 3,500 volunteers was entertained by Britain's Got Talent pop-opera sensations Jonathan and Charlotte, who performed hits such as Rule the World, and the Centre for Young Musicians concert choir.
