In 1859 he was appointed Hulsean Lecturer, and in the following year was elected Hulsean Professor of Divinity at Cambridge. In 1861 he accepted the deanery of Exeter. Dean Ellicott is the author of "Critical and Gramatical Commentaries" on the Epistles of St. Paul to the Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Thessalonians, and Philemon, and on the "Pastoral Epistles"...The University of Cambridge has recently conferred the degree of upon the Bishop Designate'.
