Treated thus, partial girdles will heal over. When the girdle is extremely bad or complete, bridge-grafting may be adopted as a means of saving the tree. Of course if the tree is very young it might be better to cut it off at the ground and graft a scion into the old root. This is described under the section on grafting. 3736-4.
