I., going as first lieutenant. In Spring, 1862, he was promoted tothe captaincy of his company; heresignedin March, 1863, on account offailing health; he returned home and built the machinery for a planingmill; put the same in operation and followed the business until 1865,sold out, and in Fall, 1865, began his present large works in companywith John Kline. This partnership continued two years, and and Wilharms bought the interest of Mr. Kline. Mr. Dumkecontinued in company five years, and then bought the entire interest,and has since operated alone. He was born in Prussia, Dec. 8, was married in 1851 to Miss Wilhelmina Guhr ; she was a native ofthe same country, born June 20, JOHN FRANZ, real estate and insurance, Manitowoc, bornNov. 15, 1832, in Prussia. In 1S56 he came to Two Rivers, workedin the factory most of the time till 1863. He then was elected to difler-ent local offices, which he held till 1S67, when he was elected Register ofDeeds ; held this office till 1S77. Since then he has been engaged in hispresent business; he has been elected twice Alderman, married in 1854to Catherine Heinz of Prussia. They have four children, one son andthree daughters.
