It appears to be a vagarious bird, fpreading in fmall flocksabout the Cafpian Sea, the Euxine Sea, Greece, and Egypt, thoughthey are never known to pafs fouthvvard beyond the equator. They appear about Hudfons Bay in company with others of thegoofe tribe, about the end of May : they lay four eggs, and hatch inJuly. The eggs as well as the young birds are elleemed very palat-able food; and the Ikins dried are worn by the Indians with thefeathers and down attached, the larger feathers being plucked to formthe diadems of their chiefs, or to weave into cloaks and other articlesof cloathing.
