A group of Eurasian Wigeons is passing over Neretva Delta in Croatia.
Neretva is the largest river of the eastern part of the Adriatic Basin and forms an alluvial delta at its mouth. This wetland is an important resting place for migrating birds. Huge parts have been drained since 1945 for the cultivation of citrus trees and lost its function as a refueling station for birds. In the remaining wetlands migrating birds are still hunted. Here a group of Eurasian Wigeons is passing. Die Neretva ist der größte Fluss der Herzegowina und mündet in einem großen Delta im südlichen Kroatien in die Adria. Die Feuchtgebiete sind ein wichtiger Rastplatz für Zugvögel. Seit 1945 aber wurde ein großer Teil davon entwässert und in Mandarinen-Plantagen umgewandelt. In den restlichen Feuchtgebieten werden Zugvögel nach wie vor gejagt. Hier fliegt gerade eine Gruppe Pfeifenten vorbei.
