Before backfilling, the rear of the wall was water-I)roofed with two coats of grade D asphalt, to preventmoisture from appearing on the front face, and a 4-inchtile drain was placed to carry off any water. The specifi-cations called for the front face of the wall to be left asstripped, thus showing a rough finish from the boardsâwhich is more likely to catch all sorts of dirt in the air. over-hanging sidewalk 8 feet wide has been built, which is held by brackets from the wall. The appearance of the wall has been greatly improvedby the construction of three sets of concrete stairs, run-ning up the front of the wall. One of these stairs is ex-ceedingly complicated, consisting of two broken flightsand having more than 150 risers. The excavation will be allowed to settle for one year, when the contract for paving will be let. Divisions 4, 5 and 6 are 3,000 feet long. In preparationfor the building of the wall, 20,000 cubic yards of earthwas excavated. The wall will contain 7,000 cubic yardsof concrete, and 328 tons of reinforcing steel, and has amaximum height of 46 feet. The Park Board has already begun the planting ofbeautiful flowers and ornamental shrubbery, to furtherenhance the artistic app
