A wheellock rifle, German, dated 1640. Lightly swamped barrel with seven groove rifling in 16 mm calibre, dovetailed iron sights, and "1640" engraved on the breech. Cut wheellock with a cloverleaf design openwork wheel cover (pan cover spring missing). Walnut full stock, richly inlaid with mother-of-pearl and bone (nose cap needs repair.) Star inlaid on the cheekpiece. Later ramrod. Length 91 cm. Attached wheel key with a helically shaped, turned handle.
