Toomey has been reelected aspresident. May is, 1901.] STREET RAILWAY REVIEW. 315 SPRING LOCK FOR TRACK SWITCHES. We illustrate herewith a. new spring lock switch lor street rail-way tracks which has recently been patented by Edward E. Burke,of Anderson. Ind. Fig. i shows an interior view of the box inwhich the mechanism is contained and the cover. A transverseslide rod provided with springs as shown has its outer end con-nected to the bottom of the switch tongue near its point. Thetwo springs act in compression and are separated by a collar fast-ened to the slide rod. This collar also forms an integral part ofthe yoke lying parallel to the slide rod. At right angles to thisrod is an operating bar on one end of which is a rack which. FIG. l-SWITCH LOCK. meshes with the sector of a pinion which is turned by the operatorin setting the switch. This operating bar is provided with camsurfaces upon which the shoulders in the yoke slide, giving theyoke a motion at right angles to the motion of the operating motion of this yoke and its attached collar compresses eitherone or the other spring, according to its direction, and the springunder compression actuates the slide rod and the switch point towhich it is connected. The cam surfaces terminate with a shortlength parallel to the axis of the operating bar and when theshoulders of the yoke upon this portion of the cam surface
