Ambrose Swasey (1846-1937), American amateur astronomer and machinist. In 1880 co-founded the Warner and Swasey Company, which built machine tools, and scientific and military instruments. The company built a number of observatory domes and telescopes and their components, including the 36-inch refractor at Lick Observatory, California, and the 40-inch telescope at Yerkes Observatory, Wisconsin.
