Trade the past week has been a little below par, due to a tendency toward a glutted market. The bright warm weath- er has brought on a heavy crop gener- ally, and particularly on carnations and violets. Carnation day had little effect on the market. Very choice rose stock is to be seen and bulbous stock is great- ly improved in quality and plentiful everywhere. American Beauty roses are plentiful and as they are usually of good quality they are moving at fair prices. Bride, Bridesmaid, Chatenay, Killarney, Richmond and Uncle John roses are conspicuous for fine quality. Some of the best Bride and Bridesmaid roses seen here for some time are coming in. Carnations are of all grades and bring prices from one to four cents. Violets are coming in in large quantities and of good general quality, but because of the heavy supply are ofif in price. Tulips, Paper White narcissus, daffodils, calla and Harrissii lilies, mignonette, and freezia, are plentiful and of good qual- ity. A large quantity of ferns were ruined in cold storage and the price has gone up in consequence. Funeral work is using a large amount of stock. A joint meeting of representatives of the associations of the retail and whole- sale florists was held at the Palmer House January 29, by invitation of the retailers. A paper was read setting forth the views of the retail association regarding the selling of flowers at re- tail by wholesalers, and asking the asso- ciation of wholesalers to take active steps to stop the practice. As the com- mittee representing the wholesalers as- sociation had no power to act on these resolutions, it
