Both my attempts were made in indooraviaries and therefore failed. Dr. Russ rightly states that this bird is less spitefulthan P. cucuUata, but I fail to see that there is anyappreciable difference between the songs of the twospecies. Above dark grey, slightly deeper on the name of theneck, which is spotted with white; the tail and wingfeathers are blackish grey, the latter having pale outerwebs: head, crest, chin, and throat crimson; a broadbelt behind the cheeks and the remainder of under sur-face white; beak horn-brown, tbe lower mandible palerthan the upper; feet pale greyish-brown; irides hazel.
