MILTONIA VEXILLARIA.—Plants of thii charming•peciea will now be found in a sufficiently advancedstate of growth to admit of their being repotted ; batbefore this operation is begun, it will be advisable tomake sure that the plants are free from the littleyellow thrips which conceal themselves right downin the interior of the young growths. It is not easyto eradicate them with a brush or sponge, and beingso minute many of them escape detection, and muchmischief is done before they are detected. The bestmethod of destroying these insects, and one thattakes up the least amount of time, is to dip or washthe growths in some safe insecticide, and afterwardsrinse them in tepid soft water. For this purpose Iuse nicotine-soap, at the rate of 2 cz. to 1 gall, of warmwater; or, in a mixture, the new XL All liquid in-secticide, both of which are effectiv
