This finish againoccurs in the rear of the temple of Durga, väie of Shiva, at Aiwalli(in the Bombay Presidency), the fagade and one side of which areshown in the adjoining illustration (Plate XVII.) ; it has beenhence conjectured that the structure was originally a chaitya. Theupper story is destroyed. A similar temple of Durga is situated onMount Girnar at Junagadh ; it rises from a strong substructure, andthe ascent to it is by a staircase.
