Sunny view metal fence in front of sportpark floodlight at the end of the graffiti scrawl Berlin Inner Wall at Mauerpark, Berlin

The inner wall of the Berlin Wall border zone was that seen by the citizens of East Berlin. This surviving 30 m section of the inner wall at Mauerpark is legally used by graffiti artists practising their art. The wall is at the top of a grassy slope which was part of the border death zone. Behind the Wall is the Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Sportpark, which opened in 1952 and became the home of the Dynamo Berlin Football Team. The inner wall here was built higher than usual to deter would-be escapees from the stadium. Mauerpark attracts many people on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
