The Church of St. Peter, in Allexton, Leicestershire, England

Praised by Sir Nikolaus Pevsner, who described it as 'splendid to look at', the Church of St. Peter in Allexton is built from local limestone and ironstone, which gives it its mottled appearance. The church dates from 1160, but with many later alterations and additions; the tower dates from abut 1500, and the porch carries a date of 1594, whilst there was a major restoration in 1862. Serving what has always been a small parish, the church was declared redundant in 2000, and is now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.
