Had it not beenfor the faithful army of more than 110,000,000loyal Americans, who were solidly standing backof the two organizations overseas, the army, too,might have had to march toward New York, in-stead of Rerlin. The American Red Cross is the largest organiza-tion of its kind in the world, and during the lasttwo years it has collected and expended several hun-. dred million dollars and has so greatly expandedand increased its activities and operations that thesun no longer sets upon its emblem. It would be in-teresting to know just how much money was re-ceived into the treasury of the Red Cross in Amer-ica since America entered the World War, but reli-able statistics upon the subject are not available atthis time. Reviewing all that the Red Cross has done, wemay with clear vision and steady gaze look forwardand see through the years of reconstruction whichfaces the world, the American Red Cross going onblazing the trail in every line of progressive human-itarian relief work in every part of the world fromwhich a call may come. Throughout all of Europe, everything that love,money and labor could do was done by the Amer-ican Red Cross to relieve and comfort and heal themillions of suffering men, women and children dur-ing this time when the whole world has been shakenwith the trage
