Much of the power expended in the haulage of the cars might also besaved if closer attention was given to a proper construction of thewheels with a view of providing a more perfect means of lubrication. Mine car wheels which rotate on the overnecks of the axles outsidethe sill-bearings almost universally have simply a hole in the hub intoor at which oil is poured at intervals, and oil thus applied is mostlywasted.
