Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. he mosque was opened in 2007 and it is the largest mosque in the UAE. The complex covers 30 acres and it can hold 40,000 worshippers. The complex has elements of Arab, Moorish and Indo-Islamic design. Top artisans from around the world were involved in its construction, using predominantly natural materials such as marble, stone, gold, crystal, semi-precious stones and ceramics. The 18,000 square meter (almost 200,000 square feet) of the inner courtyard of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is a wonder to behold; it is considered to be the largest example of marble mosaic in the world. One of seven Faustig chandeliers in the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. This is one of the 'smaller' ones. The largest, the ton world record (2007) chandelier in the main prayer hall, is reported to be the 3rd largest in the world. The chandeliers were made by the renowned Fautig Company in Germany, containing millions of Swarovski crystals, and took 2 years to complete.
