Three knives are placedupon a cylinder, which revolves about 2,300times per minute, by which the planing iseffected, and tongueing and grooving by aprocess somewhat similar. Should the loca-tion of the machine make it necessary to propel it by steam power, the shavings wouldevidently furnish a large proportion of thenecessary fuel. The invention seems to beone of practical utility, and cannot fail of an important acquisition, wherever build-ing to any considerable amount is in pro-gress.â:[Lockport Balance.]. New Method or Grafting by Approach.âCut off the stock in the form of a wedge,as in fig. 1, and cut the graft upwards, halfway through, for a sufficient length, as iiifig. 2 ; then place the graft upon the stock,as in fig. 3, and bind it on with bass andclay as usual, taking off a circle of bark the graft and the root, as in fig. 3,m, which will cause the sap to flow throughthe graft into the stock n, instead of its ownroot 0. I recommend this method for graft-ing whenever the stock and the graft are ofthe same size, or very nearly so.â[LoudonsMagazine.] [From the Journal of Health.]Saccharink Aliment.âDr. Prout considersthe principal alimentary substances as reduce-able to three great classes : the Saccharine, theOily, and the Albuminous. The first of these, wiih certain exceptions, includes the substan-ces in which, according to Gay-Lussac and , the oxygen and hydrogen are in the sameproportion as they ar
