Old Swedish windmill Öland Sweden

This socalled "stub-Mill" is special for Oeland. In 1850 there as around 3000 mills on this little island, - more or less every farm had one. Now only 300 is left. These mills are different from the Ducth mill where only the mill-hat or top is moved aginst the wind. Here the entire mill-house is manually turned to be aligned with the wind. The house is built on a stub and is fixated by 4 cross braces. Oeland has the largest number of windmills north of Holland.
