A mantis shrimp looks for food in cubes used by scientists at Sussex University to test its colour vision. The mantis shrimp, only 8cm long, can see three times as many colours as a human and its colour vision is twice as powerful as any other animal. The tests were being done by neuroscientist Justin Marshall. 20 June 1996 Picture by Roger Bamber
