Trained on trellis, fence or wall these sturdy stems form dozens of rosettes, which bear a profusion of blossoms and berries. The result is a strikingly beautiful mass of deep green foliage, accented by charming white flowers, bright green berries and rich red delicious fruit all at the same time. Sonjana is a new true ornamental, unlike anything ever seen before in the gardens of America. HOW Sonjana was DISCOVERED AND BROUGHT TO AMERICA Sonjana is not a "horti- cultural ; It was developed over a long period of years by the knowledge, the skill and the tenacity of one man, Reinhold Hummel. Mr. Hummel began his experiments in Germany before World War II. The grim days of the war interrupted his work but afterward he salvaged a few of his precious plants and continued patiently hybridizing these in his effort to create the new plant which he had set as his goal. His patience was finally rewarded " " with the perfect plant—long upward-thrusting, vine- like runners, a sturdy root system which would support the lush growth, persistent bloom through- out the season and firm fruit with a delicate flavor. Proudly he named it after his lovely little daughter Sonja. This is the plant which a famous American horti- culturalist found, after a long search, near Stuttgart, in Wurttemberg.
