Infected wound on the arm of a 66-year-old woman. The wound was caused by the tearing of skin (degloving injury). The injury occured two weeks previously. This type of injury results in a loss of blood supply to the tissue, which prevents the wound from healing. Bacteria have infected the skin causing it to become inflamed (red area) and dead infection-fighting white blood cells have accumulated in the wound as pus (yellow). Treatment includes antibiotics and dressing the ulcer to prevent further infections.
