This belt line is operated day and night, and theshifting is accomplished with great speed, the noise and. The excellent acceleration of the electriclocomotives is an important factor in the speed of thework. Two of the latter are in regular service, the thirdbeing held in reserve. The crew of an electric locomotiveon shifting work includes a motorman, conductor, trolleytender and two brakemen. Coal cars are handled for out- of-town deliveries after midnight. Three times a week anelectric locomotive hauls six carloads of bananas from thesteamship wharf district to wholesale fruit houses. The locomotives weigh 30 tons each and are 27 ft. ioj^ bumpers, with 16-ft. truck centers, an over-all widthof 8 ft. 3 in. and a body length of about 27 ft. The cabis 10 ft. long and is framed between ten posts usually4^4 in- x 4/- ni- U1 section, with the exception of thedoors, whose posts are of 3^4-in. x 5^-in. section.
