Grave of art critic John Ruskin in Coniston Churchyard, Lake District / Cumbria

Grave of art critic John Ruskin (1819-1900) in Coniston Churchyard, Lake District, Cumbria. Besides containing an intriguing swastika between the dates of his birth and death, the east and west sides of the cross portray themes from Ruskin's many books, covering themes ranging from architectural history to industrialisation and social injustice. The cross was carved by Mr HT Miles of Ulverston, who had worked for Ruskin during his lifetime. The cross was completed in 1901, and is about 2 miles away from Ruskin's lakeside home, Brantwood.
