Britannia Bridge from the shoreline of the Menai Strait, Anglesey, North Wales, UK

Looking south from the Anglesey shore at the Britannia rail and road bridge. Originally designed by Robert Stephenson with Sir William Fairburn and built across the Menai Strait 1846-50. After a fire in 1970 distorted the original iron tubes through which the railway ran they were replaced by an open track resting on steel arches (which were part of the original design, but were never installed). A road deck was added above the railway to carry the new A5/A55 and opened to traffic in 1980.
