The two ventral parts fuse together into a common gland, while the ducts formed at each point of outgrowth may either persist, or as is more often the case disappear with the exception of one (Fig. 268). The ducts of the ventral components are called Wirsung's ducts, while that of the dorsal pancreas is named the duct of Santorini. In some forms they unite either with each other to make a common duct, or with the bile duct. In lampreys all of the ducts are lost, the secretion of the pancreas consequently becoming entirely endo-.
