View from W end of St Andrews cathedral along nave (its S wall still standing) & chancel to the E end with tower of St Rule's church to SE. Church of St Rule built late C11th, Anglo-Norman Augustinian cathedral-priory begun 1160. The earlier Celtic monastery at St Andrews held what were believed to be relics of the Apostle St Andrew brought to Kilrimont (as it was known in the Dark Ages) from Patras, Greece, by the monk Regulus (Rule) during the reign of Angus I, King of the Picts (731-61).
