Ernst Ludwig House 1900 Architect, Joseph Maria Olbrich designed the Ernst Ludwig House to be used as a common atelier. The atelier provided studios and a venue for the artists to meet. Two six-metre tall statues, “Man and Woman” or “Strength and Beauty” by sculptor, Ludwig Habich, stand at the entrance of the building which is decorated with gold plated flower patterns. The building was rebuilt in the 1980s and is now a museum about the Darmstadt Artists’ Colony. Darmstadt, Hesse, Germany. Jugendstil period buildings include the Mathildenhöhe with its wedding tower (Hochzeitsturm) by Joseph Maria Olbrich, the Russian Chapel and many private homes. The Luisenplatz is the central square of the city and the Langer Lui (Long Ludwig) stands in the centre of the square, This 33 meter column commemorates Ludwig 1, the first Grand Duke of Hesse.
