A restored Chinese gold miner's hut as part of the Chinese Settlement in the old gold mining museum in Arrowtown, Otago, New Zealand. Arrowtown named after the nearby Arrow River is a historic gold mining town, once a rich source of gold extracted from the River Arrow. To the cry of “gold!” it attracted thousands, mainly from China in pursuit of their fortune in 1862. At the height of the gold rush, the population reached 7,000. These days, Arrowtown attracts visitors as it retains its old-world charm and its many original pioneer buildings.
