The floodlit Royal Border Bridge which carries the main east coast railway line over the River Tweed at Berwick upon Tweed. The Royal Border Bridge is an impressive nineteenth century railway viaduct. Opened by Queen Victoria in 1850, it was built by Robert Stephenson. It is a 659 metre long curving railway viaduct. Structurally it is composed of 28 high round arches (stone-faced brick) built on stone piers rising to 38 metres above the river.
