MODEL RELEASED. Professor Ian Wilmut (born 1944), British embryologist. In 1996, Ian Wilmut was involved in the creation of \Dolly\", the world's first cloned sheep. He headed the research that was conducted at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland. Dolly was created by somatic cell nuclear transfer. The nucleus (which contains genetic material) was removed from a Scottish Blackface (SB) ewe's egg cell and replaced with the nucleus of an udder cell from an adult Finn Dorset ewe. A spark of electricity then fused the udder cell nucleus with the egg cell cytoplasm. The genetically engineered egg was then implanted into the womb of a surrogate SB sheep. Dolly was the 277th attempt at cloning sheep."
