Autumn colours at Loch Insh Kincraig
In this part of the Spey Valley. Loch Insh, a great widening of the River Spey, attracts anglers from around the world. Years ago, the loch was renowned for large catches of atlantic salmon and pike, where 60 salmon were recorded as being taken out of the loch at one time. Recently established as part of the Cairngorms National Park, Kincraig is an area of outstanding natural beauty and contains some of the most treasured landscapes and rare wildlife. Vast ancient forests, hidden lochs and heather clad moor lands flank the River Spey and its tributaries. Kincraig was originally called Boat of Insh. Before the bridge was built, one crossed the Spey by ferry, at the north end of Loch Insh. Loch Insh is situated 6 miles south west of Aviemore. The fishing is by way of boat for brown trout. The season is from the 15th of March till the 6th of October.
