He is the son of Uriah Hill,grandson of Noah Hill, great-grandson of William Hill, all of thetown of Carmel, and great-great-grandson of Anthony Hill, a na-tive of England, who came to America from Holland, about 1720;and, after remaining awhile in New York City, settled at Fox Mea-dows, now Scarsdale, Westchester County, N. Y. His mother wasAnna Dean, daughter of Richard Dean, of Red Mills, and grand-daughter of Richard Dean, an American soldier who, according tofamily tradition, was killed at the storming of Stony Point, in theWar of the Revolution.
