St. Josefsheim building detail. Brick historic building - home to Carmelite nuns & church by architect August Kaufhold, Pappelallee 60-61, Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin The Josefsheim was founded in 1891 by Maria Tauscher, the founder of the order of the Carmelites of the Divine Heart of Jesus. The Carmelites have been working here since 1893. and the home was first used to house orphans. In 1909 a neo-Gothic style church was built on the property to plans by architect August Kaufhold. From 1945 to 2019 the St. Josefsheim was used as a retirement home but was closed because of lack of fire safety. The mother house of the nuns and the church are still used
