Bloody Meadow with Cock Beck just visible at the bottom where much slaughter took place in the rout at the Battle of Towton on Palm Sunday 1461 between the opposing armies of the House of York and the House of Lancaster during the Wars of the Roses. 28000 soldiers were killed in one day when the armies of King Henry VI and King Edward IV and no quarter was given in the bloodiest battle ever to have taken place on English soil.
