There is a way to getfrom the Indus into theShigar valley without goingthrough Skardu. by crossingthe Indus at Gol and follow-ing its right bank up to thespur between the two valleys,then crossing this over a passthat leads directly to glance at the map will show that this route is by far the difficulty is that at Gol there is no means of crossing the Indusexcept on small native rafts, and it would have taken the whole day toget a party like ours across.
