A great cen-tral arch some ten feet in span, slightly stilted, is flanked by fourarches on each side of one third its breadth, but so highly stilted thattheir crowns are kept on a level with that of the central arch. Thelatter is snrrounded by a compound archivolt, wdiose chief member isa broad band with the favorite motive of a vine, whose stem twistsitself into a series of irregular circles filled alternately by birds andleafage. Outside of this is a narrow band with rigid upright leafage,and a crown moulding with the Venetian dentil.
