Retired Master Gunnery Sgt. James R. Childers, 85, is presented an award in recognition for his role as Grand Marshal in the Onslow County Veteran’s Day parade held in Jacksonville, , Nov. 3, 2018. Childers served as a Marine from 1952 to 1979. He is a 40-year member of the Disabled American Veterans, and has spent the past 18 years driving veterans to their VA appointments logging 186,816 miles transporting 1,460 veterans and volunteering with the DAV for more than 27,000 hours. He has also championed the cause of Camp Corral which partners with the DAV and Golden Corral to send children

Childers served as a Marine from 1952 to 1979.
