MQ THE SPIRIT OFHALLOWEEN As the autumn leaves begin to fall, and the air chills with the twang weknow so well, our thoughts turn in-stinctively to Halloween. Halloween—the night of witches, ghosts, and practical jokes; the sea-son for cats, bats, and strongly it appeals to all ofus, and how eagerly we respond toits pagon call! Up and down the street in everylittle town, gaunt, toothless witchesmay be seen, (riding their broom-sticks and wailing aloud, while greatblack cats hiss and claw at unseenhants, and weirdly fearsome ob-jects creep or dance grotesciuely by. Now a loud and piercing shriekis heard—perhaps a smother wail—then a sudden whirr of bats wings,as the dip and spin and soar. Whata night of horrors! What a nightof thrills! Halloween.
