It is to be hoped that this mayprove true, and if so it will be another instance of the great value of theefforts of this Board in obtaining predaceous and parasitic insects tofight our injurious pests, such as the Vedalia cardinalis, which provedeffective against the cottony-cushion scale, and the Rhizohius ventralisand Scutellista cyanea, effective against the black scale. This fly {Masicera pachytyli, Sk.), which isrepresented in the accompanying cut, belongs tothe order Diptera, the same as our commonhouse fly, which it resembles.
