Chicago's Buckingham Fountain acts as a foreground to the sky above Lake Michigan just beyond on a summer evening. The landmark fountain was designed with sculptures by Jacques Lambert and was donated to the city by Kate Buckingham in memory of her brother, Clarence Buckingham. The fountain itself represents Lake Michigan, while each sea horse in the outer fountain symbolizes a state bordering the lake. The design of the fountain was modeled after Latona Fountain at Versailles. The fountain used to be known as the Clarence Buckingham Memorial Fountain. Buckingham Fountain was dedicated on Aug. 26, 1927.
