If taken earlier than this time a largepercentage of the blooms are apt to comedeformed, and even if tliey grow wellformed. In the case of pink and red varie-ties they will be poorly colored. In trying new varieties, when one hasno information as to which of the budsIs the most suitable to take, whethercrown or terminal, a few should be triedon the crown bud allowing the majorityto come on the terminal, as most varie-ties do best on that bud.
