Hog-nosed viper (Porthidium sp.) on a plant. This is one of the seven venomous pitviper species from the genus Porthidium, found in tropical forests from southern Mexico to northern South America. The patterning of each species is similar, with lengths from 55 to 75 centimetres. Like most snakes, they prey on small mammals, birds, frogs and lizards. Photographed in Costa Rica.
