Bamboo grove and mountains (vertical), Bifeng Xia, Sichuan Province, China

After the May, 2008 earthquake which damaged the Woolong Giant Panda Breeding Center, the pandas were moved to Bifeng Xia (Green Peak Canyon), comprising 400 hectares (!1000 acres) initially a large area of virgin forest. Giant Pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca, or black and white cat foot) are not aggressive and seem to be more interested in eating than anything else. Because their diet is mostly bamboo, which isn't calorie rich, they spend most of their time every day eating. This is one of the natural bamboo stands found on the reserve.
