Outline of an old building, Trinty, Newfoundland

The harbour in the old town of Trinity is one of the largest on the east coast of Newfoundand and has been used by fishing ships since it was discover in 1501 by a Portuguese explorer. It has had a permenant settlement the early 1600s. The town has a number of Registered Heritage Stuctures and is a great place to see historic colourful old wooden salt box houses, the Newfoundland folk architecture. The movie 'The Shipping News' was filmed here. In this image, the current standing building (reconstructed) is a three story Georgian style brick house modeled after the original which was constructed around 1819-1821 called the Lester-Garland site, part of the various mercantile firms which operated on the Trinity waterfront from the early 1700s to the early 1900s. Within and under the ruins of this reconstructed house are the foundations of the Lester house and possibly earlier remains. An old photo shows the original portions of the 1819 brick walls that were incorporated into the reconstructed house.
