Tornado damage. Fallen tree that has damaged a car due to a tornado. A tornado is a rapidly rotating funnel of air that can form below certain types of storm clouds. High wind speeds within the rotating funnel can cause immense destruction. This car is in Griffith, north-west Indiana, USA. The tornado took place on 4-5 August 2008, and was classified as an EF2 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. EF2 tornadoes reach wind speeds of 180 to 220 kilometres per hour, and are capable of uprooting large trees.
