Burial Urn with Stamped Design, 500s-600s. Korea, Unified Silla period (676-935). Stoneware with stamped designs under olive-green glaze; overall: cm (3 3/16 in.); body: x cm (1 3/4 x 4 3/16 in.). After the introduction of Buddhism, cremation became a common practice in Korea. This jar, which once contained the remains of the dead, may have nested in a larger stone container. The repetitive patterns that appear on the lid and the container was done with a stamping technique.
